Keeping a composting toilet clean is much easier than many beginners think. Since the system operates entirely without water, traditional scrubbing with a toilet brush is a thing of the past. To clean and maintain your Trelino® in the long run, all it usually takes is a simple organic cleaning spray and the right routine.

How to Clean the Urine Tank and Solids Bin Properly

Special attention should be paid to cleaning the urine tank to prevent stubborn urine scale or unpleasant odours from forming in the first place.

    • For Daily Freshness: After each use, simply spray a few puffs of a specialised composting toilet cleaner (such as our organic Trelino® Holy Shine spray or a mix of water and vinegar or citric acid) into the separator. This keeps the surfaces smooth and hygienic.

    • Cleaning & Freshening the Urine Tank: Rinse the container regularly. To effectively prevent odours inside the urine tank from the get-go, we recommend a microbiological cleaner like Trelino® Liquid Fresh. This urine tank additive, specially developed for composting toilets, uses beneficial microorganisms to biologically break down the sources of bad smells. Alternatively, you can use neat vinegar or citric acid for cleaning. Important: Avoid harsh, chemical cleaners to protect the material of your Trelino®.

    • Solids Bin & Accessories: The composting toilet and the solids bin should be cleaned regularly with a mild cleaner, such as our Holy Shine. For the best results from day one, use matching, recyclable liners and high-quality cover material (odour blocker). This keeps the bin virtually spotless and minimises the effort needed for maintenance.

With the right routine, your dry composting toilet will stay clean, completely odour-free and ready for your next adventure – whether in a campervan, allotment garden or tiny house. Discover the right composting toilet accessories now and keep your mobile loo effortlessly fresh!
